Ways To Control The Drift So You Can Live Mindfully

In car racing the “drift” is described as when the driver intentionally oversteer the car, causing loss of traction, while still maintaining control over the car. The difference between the race car drifting and the drift I want to talk about is that with the race car, the driver usually has control over the drift. He directs and control the drift which can be a thing of beauty.

However, drifting through life mindlessy, is anything but a thing of beauty. There is nothing attractive about a person who drifts aimlessly through life. We are living, breathing creatures. We can choose to live intentionally, i.e. control the drift or we can simply consciously or unconsciously decide to just drift.

This applies whether you are a Type A CEO caught up in running your company 24/7, while ignoring your family and your health. Or a single mom totally focused on the needs of your kids while ignoring that pain in your chest or head.

The results of drifting through life can have devastating effects and can destroy the very thing we sometimes lose ourselves to.

Does it feel like everyone (your boss, children, significant other, friends) is in control of your life except you? If you feel like you are sleepwalking through life, having little or no say so over the results you get, then you are drifting. According to Paul Pullein
