Dear Airbnb Host, I Don’t Need 500 Channels
I just need clean sheets.
I’ve stayed at quite a few Airbnb in the last couple of years and I’m often surprised at the importance some accommodations place on microwaves and televisions over genuine cleanliness.
I understand some people may want to pay thousands of dollars to leave their homes and visit a foreign country to watch more television. No judgment if that’s your thing. But as someone who gave up television ten years ago, I’m disheartened by how often hosts tout the gazillion channels on their TV along with Netflix and YouTube.
Yet I arrive at my Airbnb rental and the bedding is dirty. And I can’t make myself a cup of coffee when I wake up.
Don’t get me wrong. Maybe hosts provide for a particular clientele who prefer a microwave over a working stove. Or television shows in a foreign language instead of reliable internet.
But what if the host genuinely cared about what their guest wanted? What if, like hotels, Airbnb hosts had a suggestion box or allowed their guests to give written feedback?
Would having this feedback help a host who amalgamated guest feedback to provide a more pleasant Airbnb experience for future guests? I understand some people just want clean sheets. But sometimes even that’s hard to come by. Like when I laid…
